If a pupil has a particular aptitude for a subject, it is vital that this is fully represented within the curriculum, so as to give them every opportunity to shine.
FROM Class 9 to Class 10 the EDEXCEL International GCSE (IGCSE) curriculum is followed.
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the most recognized qualifications around the world. IGCSE courses are renowned for developing vital educational skills, including recall of knowledge, oral skills, problem solving, initiative, team work and investigative skills. The resulting qualification provides a foundation for higher level courses, such as A and AS Levels, the Advanced International Certificate of Education, the North American Advanced Placement programme and the International Baccalaureate.
- IGCSE offers a flexible course of study that gives candidates the freedom to choose subjects that are right for them, whilst providing them with a broad knowledge base and lifelong skills.
- IGCSE is a high profile qualification. It has exactly the same value in admitting students to institutes of further education and employment as the UK equivalent – GCSE.
- IGCSE has an excellent reputation amongst international schools worldwide
- IGCSEs are recognized as a reliable record of attainment which counts towards entry to universities and colleges around the world
- A good grade (i.e. C or above) in IGCSE is accepted for entry by almost all universities in the UK and many in the USA, Canada and Australia as evidence of adequate competence.
The IGCSE is often considered to be more similar to the older O-Levels qualification than to the current GCSE in England, and for this reason is often argued to be more rigorous in terms of examination difficulty. The IGCSE is graded on an 8-point scale from A* to E.
Students are awarded raw marks for each exam paper and for any coursework that they have completed. These marks are added together to give an overall mark. During the awarding process, Edexcel decides where the grade boundaries lie and students are awarded a grade based on where their mark lies within these boundaries. Students’ overall raw marks are converted into the Uniform Mark Scale (UMS) marks to take account of variations in difficulty between papers.
Grades may vary slightly in difficulty from yearto year. For example, a mark of 53 in one paperin a January exam session might represent thesame level of achievement as a mark of 49 ina different version of the same paper in thefollowing summer exam session. The UMSensures that these two marks have the samevalue when contributing to the final grade.
IGCSE curriculum begins from Class 8 and ends in Class 10. The Exams are held in two sittings, the first in the middle of Class 10 and the second at the end of Class 10.
In Class 11 and Class 12 Edexcel A Level curriculum is followed.
